Things have improved greatly as of late as far as Mother Nature is concerned and the first real outdoor track meet took place in Mobridge last week Thursday. There were 22 teams in attendance and on the girls’side of things; Eureka finished second with 89 points, Herreid/Selby Area fourth with 76 points and Sully Buttes fifth with 64 points. For the boys’ teams; Herreid/Selby Area finished third with 86 points, Sully Buttes fourth with 56 points, Eureka sixth with 46 points and Edmunds Central seventh with 40 points.

Individually, Eureka/Bowdle’s Sierra Stotz brought home three first place finishes in the 100, 200 and Long Jump. Leah Wipf finished second in the 400 and fourth in the 100 and 200; Alexis Huettl fourth in the 300 Hurdles and sixth in the 100 Hurdles; Samantha Raile second in Triple Jump, third in Long Jump and fifth in the 300 Hurdles; Rebekah Cope fifth in the 100 Hurdles; and Theresa Kolar tied for sixth in the High Jump and Heidi Stickelstad finished 8th in Triple Jump. They also finished sixth in the 400, seventh in the Medley and eighth in the 800 and 1600 relays.

Herreid/SelbyArea’s Haylee Biel won the High Jump and finished third in Shot Put; Charlie Tisdall finished third in the 400; Jana Thorstenson fourth in Discus; Annabel Pflug seventh in the 100; Grace Goehring and Cassie Anderson third and seventh respectively in the 1600 and Kaylee Walker and Macy Masteller seventh and eight respectively in the 3200. They won the Medley, finished second in the 1600 and 3200, and finished fourth in the 400 and 800 relays.

Sully Buttes’ Bailey Bradford finished second in the 100 and 200; Remi Wientjes third in the 200 and Karlea Stahl and Chloe Lamb fourth and fifth respectively in Long Jump. They won the 400 and 800, finished second in the Medley and fourth in the 3200 relays.

Individually on the boys’ side; Herreid/Selby Area’s Dakota Thorstenson won the Triple Jump and High Jump and finished sixth in Shot Put. Austin Iverson won the 110 Hurdles and finished second in the 300 Hurdles; John Begeman second in High Jump and seventh in Triple Jump; Cooper Schaefbauer and Cade Opheim fourth and sixth respectively in the 100; Logan Schaefbauer sixth in the 400 and Dawson Mayer eighth in the 200. They finished second in the 400 and 800, third in the Medley and seventh in the 1600 relays.

Sully Buttes’Lewis Hofer, Reed Feller and Scott Senftner finished third, fourth and sixth respectively in Discus; Cody Nelson fourth in Long Jump; Ethan Weinheimer fourth in the 800 and Conner Archer seventh in Shot Put. The won the Medley, finished third in the 1600 and seventh in the 400 relays.

Eureka/Bowdle’s Brandon Beutler finished fifth in the 100 and sixth in the 200; Josh Raile fourth in Triple Jump and sixth in the 300 Hurdles; Austin Weiszhaar, Austin Moser and Tyler Wipf second, seventh and eighth respectively in Long Jump and Jesse Weber third in Triple Jump. Edmunds Central’s Bryce Malsam won the 200 and 300 Hurdles, and finished second in the 110 Hurdles and third in High Jump; while Cole Holtz finished third in the 100.

Gettysburg hosted a meet this past Saturday. There were eleven teams scoring points on the girls’ side; with Potter County winning the meet with 139 points, Eureka/Bowdle third with 87 points, and Herreid/Selby Area fourth with 86 points and Sully Buttes seventh with 30 points. There were twelve teams scoring on the boys’ side; with Potter County finishing third with 74 points, Herreid/SelbyArea fourth with 61, Sully Buttes seventh with 47 points; Eureka/ Bowdle eighth with 46 points and Edmunds Central ninth with 32 points.

Individually for the girls, Potter County’s Regan Everson won the Long Jump and finished second in the 100 Hurdles; Grace Cook won the 400 and finished second in the 200; Mercades Genzler third in the 200 and fourth in Triple Jump; Alli Lake third in both Shot Put and Discus; Samantha Stetham and Kali Hanson second and third in Pole Vault; Alyssa Haberer second in Discus; and Sierra Wieseler third in the 400 and Delanie Larson third in the 3200. They won the 1600 and Medley and second in the 400 and 800 relays.

Eureka/Bowdle’s Samantha Raile won the Triple Jump, finished second in the Long Jump and fourth in the 300 Hurdles; Sierra Stotz won the 100; Leah Wipf second in the 400, third in the 100 and fourth in the 200; Theresa Kolar fourth in High Jump; Michaela Kappes fourth in Pole Vault; Sam Frickson fourth in the 100 Hurdles and Karlie Hinton fourth in Discus. They also finished third in the 400 and 1600 relays.

Herreid/SelbyArea’s Haylee Biel won both the High Jump and Shot Put; Grace Goehring won the 800 and 1600; and Kara Thorstenson finished third in the 800 and Courtney Anderson fourth in the 400. They won the 3200 and finished second in the 1600 and Medley relays. Sully Buttes’Bailey Bradford won the 200 and finished second in the 100 and Gracie Weinheimer finished second in the 800.

Individually for the boys, Potter County’s Tim Heien won the 800; Lucas Smith won the Pole Vault; Colton Hall won the Long Jump; Treyson Drew finished third in Discus; Rease Logan fourth in High Jump and Dalton Storer second in the 100 and third in the 200. They also won the 400.

Herreid/Selby Area’s John Begeman won the High Jump and finished second in Triple Jump;Austin Iverson finished second in the 110 Hurdles and Logan Schaefbauer finished third in the 100. They finished second in the 400 and 800, third in the Medley and fourth in the 3200 relays.

Sully Buttes’Cody Nelson won the 100 and finished second in the 200 and Long Jump; Bramm Pickner finished third in the 800 and fourth in the 400 and Reed Feller third in High Jump and fourth in Discus. Eureka/ Bowdle’s Chase LaCoursiere won Triple Jump; Keeyn Rau finished second in Pole Vault; Austin Weiszhaar third in Long Jump; Brandon Beutler fourth in the 100 and Nils Maisel third in Triple Jump. They also finished third in the 400 relay. Edmunds Central’s Bryce Malsam won the 110 Hurdles and 300 Hurdles, finished second in High Jump and fourth in the 200.

Groton will have just hosted a meet on Tuesday and Mobridge will be hosting another meet this Thursday (17th) and Redfield will be the site of a meet next Thursday, April 24th.

The first golf meet in our neck of the woods was held last Saturday in Ipswich. There were only twelve girls at the meet and Sully Buttes won the team portion with a 397. There were 25 boys with five teams competing; and Sully Buttes finished in second with 299 and Potter County fifth with 379.

Individually for the girls; Bowdle’s Micaela Johnson was the medalist with a 101 and Rachel Kessel finished third with a 115. Sully Buttes’ Mindy Ravnass finished second, Lauren Wittler fourth, Layna Parling eleventh and Deidre Lamb twelfth.

Eureka’s Jordan Maier finished third overall, Sully Buttes’ Brayden Wittler finished eighth, Greer Hofer and Clay Feller ninth and tenth and Adam Brakke sixteenth; and Potter County’s Ben Kruger and Jeff Smith finished thirteenth and fourteenth and Joey Brown twenty fifth.

The next meet is scheduled to take place in Faulkton on Thursday (17th) and the YTC Meet will be held in Eureka next Thursday, April 24th. Assuming the weather cooperated; I will have the results of the Faulkton meet in next week’s column.
