Theodore (Ted) Anderson was the youngest child born of Gerhard and Clara (Harby) Anderson at the family farm on July 30, 1932. He attended the one-room school, known as Wayside School. It was about three quarters of a mile walk for him to attend daily. According to him, “uphill both ways.” After the eighth grade, he was helping on the farm until Uncle Sam came calling. He was drafted into the Army toward the end of the Korean Conflict. It was at this time he met some of the men he would consider “army buddies” for the rest of his life.

When he returned from serving his country for two years, he met Ruth Hohl. This friendship and marriage lasted for 59 years until she passed away last July. Together, they farmed the land, raised cattle and hogs, not to mention lots of chickens. They would sell eggs to several people in town. The money from those egg sales used to result in a special trip into town to the drive-inn for a meal, followed by dad’s favorite item, ice cream.

As time went by and they slowly turned the farm over to the kids, they found time for “army buddy reunions” These were the best times, Dad always said. They traveled to several places in the United States, but he always talked about the trip to Washington, D.C. He thought that was quite the experience.

Farming was his passion. Imagine the changes he saw; horse-drawn equipment, steel wheel tractors, rubber tires, then a tractor with a cab. As he rode along in the tractors that had auto-steer, all he would say was my, my, my things sure have changed.

When he found free time, some of his interests included; packing lunch and hunting for rattlesnakes, picking and eating choke cherry jelly, raising sweet corn to eat, but mostly to give away. If you were looking for the time, dad had it available on at least one of his clocks in his collection. He also took great pride in the fact that he had a license plate from every year there was a plate issued in Campbell County.

Ted is survived by sons Glen (Mary Jo) Anderson and Kent (Melanie) Anderson; grandchildren Brady (Amber) Aberle, Courtney Anderson, Cassidy Anderson, Caitlyn Anderson, Drew Svihovec and Tyler Svihovec; great-grandchildren Jagger and Jett Aberle; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and companion, “Rascal.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents Gerhard and Clara; brothers and sistersin law Palmer (Gladys) Anderson, Calvin (Bernice) Anderson and Lloyd (Charlotte) Anderson; sisters and brother-in law Alph (Lewis) Prasek, Bertha (Albert) Prasek and Edith (Gilbert) Bierwagon.
