After a long hard two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Perry died on Nov. 2, 2022 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, North Dakota, with his wife and daughter by his side.

Arrangements are entrusted to Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Perry was born on Nov. 11, 1965 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was adopted by his parents Martin and Beatrice Mickelson. Perry grew up on the family farm, seven miles west of Highway 83/Hwy 10 and went to school K-12 in Pollock, South Dakota.

Perry met the love of his life, Lona Harty, Oct. 2, 1984 while attending Northern State College. They wed June 8, 1985, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Shortly after marriage, Perry joined The United States Army in May of 1986. They traveled the world together with their children for 11.5 years before settling down in the state of Washington and starting a 17- year career with Comcast Cable Company out of Tacoma, Washington where he was loved by many co-workers turned family.

Perry’s passion was giving, he loved to make people laugh and that smile of his was contagious and could light up any room. When the chance came to move back home eight years ago to South Dakota, the whole family was onboard. Perry and his family relocated to Mound City, South Dakota. After the sale of the Steakhouse in February of 2020 he was finally able to enjoy life, even after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October of 2020. Keeping himself constantly busy with mowing lawns for the town of Mound City, helping out with the Mound City Fire Department and working at Fresh Start Market with all of his friends, that again, turned family, he remained dedicated to his work and his will to fight cancer up until the very end: nothing was going to stop him.

Perry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lona Mickelson; daughter and son-in-law Cassie and Bryan Stokes of Mound City; son Kyle Mickelson of Pollock; and his adored and very loved grandchildren Leehvi, Karsin and Scarlett Stokes; brother and sister-in-law Gilbert and Cathy Mickelson of Herreid, South Dakota; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his infant son; and his many rescued cats, that he adored.

Perry has requested to be cremated with no viewing; his ashes will be spread by family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial to the Mound City Fire Department.

We’d like to thank the entire Campbell County Community for the utmost love and support for Perry over the last few years. Cathy Mickelson, for being “Her” Day or Night, with open arms. Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, Sanford Medical Center as well as Sanford Hospice in Bismarck. Perry and his family received the best possible care in their hands.
