MP wrestlers pull four medals during weekend invite

Led by Aiden Schoenhard’s third-place finish, the Tiger pulled in four medals at the Lee Wolf Invitational wrestling tournament in Aberdeen on Saturday.

Schoenhard took third at 220 pounds with a 7-5 win over Class A’s eighth-ranked Matthew Peters of Watertown. To get there, Schoenhard (ranked third in Class B) defeated Layne Moser of Winner Area 16-1 tech, was pinned by Class A’s sixth-ranked Bryce Beitelspacher of Aberdeen Central and pinned Lykken Parlett of Bismarck Century.

Jesse Bearsheart took fourth place at 170 pounds. Bearsheart, who rose to being ranked number four this week, beat Dylan Murray of Redfield 7-1 before getting pinned by Aidan Kenable of Sioux Falls O’Gorman. He pinned Kamryn Meek of Winner Area, earning a forfeit win and beating Ayden Gisi of Aberdeen Central 7-2. In the third-place match, Bearsheart was pinned for a second time by Kenable.

Wyatt Wientjes earned sixth place at 132 pounds. In a back and forth day, Wientjes pinned Sutton Powers of Chamberlain, was beaten 6-1 by sixth-ranked Haeden Jorgenson of Webster Area, pinned Aiden Zavesky of Huron, beat Holden Hight of Sioux Falls O’Gorman 9-6, and then lost 10-2 to Braden Le of Watertown and 8-7 to Tate Huff of Aberdeen Central.

Riley Kerner came in eighth at 285 pounds. Kerner’s win was a 3:47 pin over teammate Axton Gates. He lost his other three matches by pin to Micah Hach of Watertown, Bryan Ramirez of Huron and Daniel Vazquez of Sioux Falls O’Gorman.
