The Lady Tigers put an end to a two-game losing streak with a 66-61 win over Tiospa Zina in Agency Village on Saturday.
In a game that featured 48 fouls and 69 free throws, the Lady Tigers did not start as well as they would have liked. After taking a 14-9 lead in the first quarter, Tiospa Zina used an early run in the second quarter to take an 11-point, 24-13 lead. The Lady Tigers closed the gap before Mariah Goehring hit a three-point just before the halftime buzzer to close the Lady Tigers to within 31-27.
Led by Emma Keller’s seven points, the Lady Tigers started the third quarter with a 9-4 run to take a 36-35 lead. Keller scored three more baskets as part of a push that upped the Lady Tiger lead to 47-39. Tegan Konold scored the game’s next six points, taking the Lady Tiger lead to 52-39.
On the backs of Kennadee Bissonnette and Alexia Quinn, Tiospa Zina fought back to get within two points at 60-58 late in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Tigers held the Wambdi back over the last three minutes. Leading 63-61, Keller scored a basket and Heidi Olson hit a free throw with 6.5 seconds left to secure the win.
Keller had an outstanding game, leading the Lady Tigers with 24 points, six rebounds and six steals. Katy Kemnitz came off the bench to scored nine points. Mariah Goehring scored eight points and Charley Henderson and Faith Heil scored seven points each. Olson scored just three points, but led the Lady Tigers with seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Tiospa Zina was led by a pair of double doubles. Bisonnette scored 20 points and grabbed 11 boards. Quinn scored 19 points and pulled down 17 rebounds.
Miller
The Lady Tigers fought to the end but fell 45-41 to Miller in Miller on Thursday.
The first half was low scoring with the Lady Tigers playing catch-up. Miller led 9-5 after the first quarter. The Lady Tigers chipped away until tying the game at 14-14 before taking a 16-15 lead. Miller answered with a pair of free throws to take a 17-16 halftime lead.
Charley Henderson scored seven of the Lady Tigers’ 10 points in the third quarter, including the basket that gave them a 26-24 entering the fourth quarter.
Miller’s Morgan Kolda had a hot streak early in the fourth quarter, scoring six straight points during a run that gave the Rustlers a 32-29 lead. Miller used the momentum to build the lead to 41-33 with 1:14 to play. The Lady Tigers kept cutting into the deficit, but Miller hit enough free throws to hold on for the four-point win.
Henderson led the Lady Tigers with 16 points. Emma Keller scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds. Mariah Goehring scored seven points, Tegan Konold five and Katy Kemnitz 4.
Kolda led Miller with a game-high 18 points. Tyra Gates scored 11 points and Aleah Schlechter scored seven.
