Mobridge-Pollock football suffer first loss of the season


The Mobridge-Pollock Tiger football team was knocked from the ranks of the undefeated on their home field Friday night. 

The Redfield Pheasants came back with a touchdown and extra point in the waning seconds of the contest to defeat the Tigers 21-20. 

Both teams had to punt the ball away on their opening series. Redfield advanced inside the Tigers’ 30 on their second series after a big 35-yard break away run around the edge. The Tigers, however, ended the threat with an interception close to the 25. 

MP failed to take advantage of the turnover and punted the ball away from their 28. Redfield took advantage of the field position on the Tigers’ 42, and in three plays, were in the end zone. They powered it in from the five and threw for the points after touchdown to go up, 8-0 with 4:24 left in the opening quarter. 

The Tigers went nowhere on their next series and then had their punt blocked setting the Pheasants up near mid field. Redfield broke free on a touchdown run on their first play, but it was negated by a penalty, and they ended up punting from the Tigers’ 44. 

MP was trapped inside their 10 and ended up throwing an interception which the Pheasants turned into a TD. The Tigers intercepted the Pheasants extra point try so Redfield settled for a 14-0 lead at the 1:08 mark of the first quarter. 

The Tigers mounted their first scoring drive of the night at that point. They mounted a 15-play drive from their 15. Jackson Eisemann eventually punched it in from the one. A 32- yard pass from Eisemann to Turner Pfitzer set up the score. Redfield foiled the Tigers point after try leaving MP down 14-6 at the 9:47 mark of the second quarter. 

The defenses came up big rest of the half. MP forced the Pheasants to punt on their next series and then blocked a field goal try. Redfield intercepted the Tigers twice. MP forced the Pheasants into one more punt situation before the end of the half. 

MP opened the third quarter by going three and out but then they forced a fumble which they recovered on their 18. The Tigers mounted their second scoring drive of the night from there. They put together a 20-play drive, which culminated in a one-yard touchdown run by Aiden Schoenhard. This time MP converted their PAT pass tying the game at 14 all at 5:33 in the third. 

After a three and out by the Pheasants, MP began on their 24. On the third play of the drive, a Jackson Eisemann to Holden Eisemann connection went for 72 yards and a score. Redfield again foiled the XP try leaving the Tigers up 20-14 with 2:43 on the third-quarter clock. 

After a three and out by Redfield, MP put together another threatening drive. After a penalty on the Tigers backed them up to their 15, the Tigers found themselves in a punt situation on their 25. Instead, they completed a pass, which moved them to Redfield’s 7. Another penalty call backed them up to the 23 and Redfield ended the drive with another interception. 

MP returned the favor on the Pheasants next drive as they intercepted them near mid field. The Tigers advanced to the Pheasants 27 before being forced to turn the ball over on downs. 

Redfield mounted the final scoring drive of the night from there. It was a 14-play drive and included to fourth down conversions. They punched in the tying touchdown from the 3 with :14 seconds to go. A successful point after touchdown gave them the lead 21-20, and with only :07 seconds to go, there wasn’t anything the Tigers could do.
