In a delayed season opener, Herreid-Selby Area football team rose to the top taking the win against Timber Lake on Aug. 26.
The Wolverines traveled to Timber
Lake last week, after a bye week during the first week of the football season, and won 30-14. The HSA defense held off the Timber Lake offense, not allowing them to score until the fourth quarter.
Brenden Begeman led the Wolverines in points, scoring all four of the team’s touchdowns for a total of 295 rushing yards.
Begeman scored once in the first quarter, twice in the third and once in the fourth.
Mason Vetter had a total of 17 rushing yards, Tray Hettick with 56 rushing yards and Cole Zabel had four rushing yards under the Friday night lights.
Hettick also completed 49 passing yards during the game.
Carrying the ball, Begeman completed three yards, while Darion Barker had 26 receiving yards and Vetter with 20 yards.
Quarterback Tray Hettick had a total of 16 attempts and eight completed attempts for a total of 49 yards.
The Wolverine defense held strong during the three quarters and only allowed Timber Lake to rack up points in the fourth quarter.
Nathan Bradford led the team with 14 total tackles. Collin Tisdall had nine tackles and one sack with the loss of a half yard, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Cole Zabel had seven tackles with one tackle for loss of five yards. Hettick also had one tackle for a loss of five yards out of his seven total tackles.
Barker had two TFL totaling 7 yards out of his five tackles; Trevor Gill had three tackles with one TFL for three yards and Nathan Schumacher had two tackles and one sack with the loss of a half yard.
Vetter had five total tackles, Wayde Grage had and Hunter Friend each had four tackles, Kaden Sayler had two tackles and Begeman had one.
The Wolverines will face off at 7 p.m. Sept. 2 against Lemmon/McIntosh at Herreid High School.
