Herreid begins search for new finance officer, maintenance personnel

Positions at $20 per hour plus benefits and sign on bonusHonoring

The Herreid City Council held a special meet-ing on Monday, May 23. Action related to city personnel highlighted the meeting.

Finance Officer Chessie Dodds and maintenance supervisor Ryan Goehring had evidently both submitted letters of resignation to the council. However neither letter was discussed or even acknowledged in the open portion of the meeting. Following that, the council went into executive session (public and press excluded) to discuss personnel.

Upon coming out of the executive session, the council moved to hire a new finance officer and maintenance personnel. Wages will start at $20 per hour plus a benefit package, with a sign on bonus of $500 after 90 days and $1,000 after one year. The positions will remain open until filled.

Dodds will create a flyer for Facebook, Valley Telecommunications and the Prairie Pioneer, and the flyers will also be posted around the community. Dodds will also post the positions on indeed.com.

Dodds will stay on in a part-time role after June 11 until July 30 at a pay rate of $30 per hour, which is the same rate as previous part time finance officers received.

In other business, the council:

• Moved to appoint Bob Rossow to the open Ward III position on the council. Rossow has previously held that position but did not take out a petition to run for election.

• Heard that maintenance staff is currently cleaning up and beginning to fill the city pool. Plans are to open the pool on Monday, June 6. The pool will be open from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on weekdays, 1-6 p.m. on Saturdays and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.

• Discussed maintenance work at Fairview Cemetery, including whether city maintenance personnel should do the work or if it would be better to put it out for bids. Because of questions that arose during the discussion the council agreed to visit with City Attorney Mark Kroontje before proceeding with either option.

* Discussed a request from a community member to paint the old metal shop building in the alley west of the Campbell County Bank. The council agreed to paint the building, and council member Adrienne Dupper will visit with Tom Badger of Herreid Lumber to see if he has on hand, or can get in, the proper paint for the building.

• Set a hearing at the June 13 regular council meeting on a request from Fresh Start Market for an off sale package liquor license.

• Moved to approve the Annual Report. The finance officer from Selby had assisted Dodds with some of the paperwork.
