30th Annual Pollock Mens Club Tourney a huge successJust wait till you see them next year was a parting comment by a fisherman in the 2007 Pollock Mens Club Fishing Tourney. His prediction was right. Participants in the 30th Annual Pollock Mens Club Fishing Tourney found abundant fish and great weather. The teams set a record pace on Saturday, when they pulled in 1,106.91 lbs. of walleye. Only .81 of a pound separated the top five teams. The teams continued their record pace on Sunday, netting 1,122.59 lbs. The two day total of 2,229.50 lbs. was the largest catch for a tourney since they started weighing just six fish. Ron Anderson of Milnor, N.D., and Bruce Maxwell of Gwinner, N.D., took the early lead on Saturday with 20.49 lbs., and they maintained their first place standing with 20.74 lbs. on Sunday. They totaled 41.23 lbs. A father and son team from Mina, S.D., captured second place in the tourney. Brent and Ross Barton were also in second place after the first day with 20.31 lbs. On Sunday, they were in fourth as they pulled in 19.75 lbs., but their two-day total of 40.06 put them in second overall. The third place team had local ties. Troy Hanson of Pollock and Craig Davis of Sioux Falls netted a total of 37.52 lbs. of walleye. They were in ninth after Saturday with 18.50 lbs., and Sunday they were the sixth place team with 19.02 lbs. Fourth place honors went to Rich Huebner of Correll, Minn., and Tim Giese of Ortonville, Minn. Their two-day total was 37.50 lbs. On Saturday, they were the 20th team with 17.01 lbs., but they roared back on Sunday, when they were the second place team with 20.49 lbs. The Bismarck team of Joe Vetter and Mark Holzer finished in fifth. They were in 21st place after Saturday with 16.99 lbs. They also had a big catch on Sunday. Their 20.34 lbs. put them in third on Sunday and fifth overall. The big fish on Saturday was netted by Derwin Mann of Bismarck. He pulled in a 6.61 pounder. The largest fish on Sunday was caught by the tourney winners, Ron Anderson and Bruce Maxwell. They netted a 7.38 lb. walleye. Weather for the two-day tourney was almost perfect. Actually, the fishermen commented that it wasnt quite windy enough as there wasnt enough wind to blow away the pesky gnats and bugs that hovered over the river. The fishermen enjoyed the much higher water level in Lake Oahe, and they were kept very busy pulling their catch off the hooks. One young fisherman said his team caught over 65 fish on Saturday, and another team put their tally at over 90. Several teams came in early each day, as they were satisfied with their days catch. There were lots of smiles on the fishermens faces as the tourney came to a close, and lots of compliments for the Mens Club on another well-run tourney. |
